Kent to Ghent Bike Ride 2016
On Thursday 12th May 37 riders including our very own Kevin Murton and Lynda Murton set off on an EPIC bike ride from Kent to Ghent. Setting off at the end of the Southern Municipal Exhibition on a gruelling 150-mile ride in 3 days was no mean feat for our intrepid riders.
Battling with lost riders in Kent, 45mph winds in Belgium and even stronger winds along the beach in Ostend the bike ride was challenging and really tested the team’s strength and endurance. The ride ended on the Sunday with a celebratory boat trip on the canals of Ghent, with people already talking about next year’s bike ride.
Overall the group of riders raised over £40,000 for various charities. Speaking on his return Kevin Murton, EPIC Media Groups Managing Director, said “What we have achieved is fantastic, year on year the team grows and as does the vital funds we raise for a variety of different charities that are close to our heart”. Murton continued “there is already talk of next year’s bike ride being bigger and better”.
Special thanks needs to be given to the supporters of the bike ride, without their support and sponsorship the ride would not be able to take place. These include; Faun Zoeller, Riverside Truck Rental, Terberg Matec, Johnston Sweepers, VWS, JB Rhiney and Dennis Eagle.
Next year’s bike ride will take place from the 28th September to 1st October covering over 300km from Lille to Amsterdam. To join the men in lycra please follow this link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cycle-heroes-2017-tickets-29221221460
